Why Job Boards Don't Work for Job Seekers For many job seekers, using job boards can be frustrating and time-consuming. While the abundance of job ads may be appealing at first, sifting through them all can become a full-time job. To make matters worse, many of these job postings are actually "scraped" from other employment sites, often without the employer's knowledge. Job boards do this to increase traffic and listings on their site in order to attract more clients, but it might result in positions being tagged as "new" when they have been closed for months on the original website. It can be difficult to distinguish between organic and scraped content, and because application instructions might change during scraping, your resume may never even reach the recruiting manager. Because it is so simple to apply on job boards, these positions become extremely competitive, making it even more difficult to attract the attention of the hiring manager. Because most job boards do not verify the legitimacy of the ads, you should also be wary of scammers. Furthermore, job boards do not represent the enormous number of jobs on the "hidden job market" that only company employees or recruiters may be aware of. Finally, job boards serve their clients, which are employers who pay to list their jobs, rather than job seekers who use a free service.
