How Do You Know If a Candidate Is Interested in Your Job?
Having your top candidates turn down your job offer can be extremely frustrating. Not only have you lost a great employee, but you’ve wasted time and potentially lost other great candidates during the process. How can you tell if a candidate is really interested in your company so you can better focus your recruiting efforts, or at least avoid unpleasant surprises? Asking the following questions can help you determine if a candidate is really interested:
• Are they prepared for the interview?
• Do they ask questions and what are they?
• Does the conversation flow?
• Are they interested in their industry?
• What attitude are they displaying in their tone of voice and body language?
• What are their deal breakers?
• Are they willing to put in extra effort beyond the initial interview?
• What do you know about their current role?
• How do they treat your staff?
• Why do they want the job?
• Would they accept a counteroffer from their current employer?
• How do they portray themselves on social media?
• What are their long-term goals?
Although you can’t predict what a candidate will do, asking the right questions during the interview process and paying attention to the candidates' answers and body language can give you insight into what a candidate may be thinking.
