Wireless Or Wired Internet - Which Is the Best Choice for Resorts, Hotels Or Accommodation?
image

In our increasingly “need it now” society, it has become more and more crucial for resort and apartment facilities to not only provide wireless Internet access for guests, but to ensure that the speeds and signal strength that come with it are up to scratch. The average business user who needs to download a large PDF file, or guests who wish to upload and share large images with friends and family does not want to struggle along with one or two bars of wireless reception, just as the accommodation manager does not want to spend their time dealing with guest complaints - especially when they may not be technically advanced themselves. Nowadays, guests expect efficient wireless Internet, much the same as colour TV or air conditioning became expected.

In order to avoid these potential mishaps, several precautions and assessments need to be taken in advance by the manager or body corporate considering adding Wireless to their building. As an accommodation facility manager, asking yourself the following questions may prove useful:

  • What is my ratio of apartments with permanent residents to guests?
  • Is my main concern simply attracting new bookings by the provision of a wireless service, or am I looking to add an additional revenue stream that will pay off the initial cost of the system itself as well?
  • When was my building constructed? What is the structure of the rooms? Do many of them have large, divided areas that make obtaining direct line of sight difficult?
  • Is there reasonably easy access to risers/power rooms for providing power to any and all necessary wireless hardware?
  • Do I want to cover the entire building, including each individual room, or do I just want to cover common areas such as the lobby?
