Why Job Boards Don't Work for Job Seekers Using job boards can be frustrating and time-consuming for many job seekers. While the wealth of job postings may look great at first, hunting through so many ads can seem like a full-time job. To make matters worse, many of these posts are actually reposted from other job sites in a process called “scraping,” often without the employer’s knowledge. Job boards do this to drive traffic and boost postings on their site so they can attract more customers, but it can result in jobs being marked as “new” which have actually been closed for months on the original website. It can be hard to tell the organic posts from scraped ones, and because the application directions can become altered during scraping, your resume may never even reach the hiring manager. Because it is so easy to apply to jobs, job boards become very competitive, making it more difficult for you to catch the attention of the hiring manager. Since most job boards don’t verify the authenticity of the positions being posted, you must also be wary of scammers. And job boards don’t even represent the large number of jobs on the “hidden job market” which only company employees or recruiters may know about. Ultimately, job boards cater to their clients, which are the employers who pay to post their jobs, not the job seekers using a free service.
