What Is Direct Hire Staffing? Direct hire staffing is the process of an employer hiring a candidate directly, rather than as a temporary employee through a staffing agency. This can also be called direct placement or permanent placement. In direct hire staffing, the recruiting agency will find and present candidates to their clients as well as coordinate interviews and assist in job offer negotiations. Once the client chooses a candidate and makes a job offer, they will pay a placement fee to the staffing agency and employ the candidate directly on their payroll in the same way as a candidate who they had independently sourced. The candidate is entitled to any benefits that other permanent employees have and their employer is the client company. In a temporary or temp-to-hire role, the candidate is an employee of the staffing agency, although the client still makes the job offer and they will work at the client's location. They are on the staffing agency's payroll and are not entitled to the same benefits as a permanent employee of the client company because the client company is not their employer. However, the client company still has the option to hire the temp employee permanently according to the conditions agreed to with the staffing agency.
